Roasting Utensils

Descriptions and Uses
  1. Bird-spit: A footed pan to catch drippings, with hooks for roasting small birds.
  2. Dutch Oven: A heavy iron pot or kettle on feet, used for roasting or baking at the hearth; set above coals and with coals placed on lid to provide more heat.
  3. Spit: "A long prong on which meat is driven to be turned before the fire." (Johnson)
  4. Ring-top Andirons for Spits/Standard Irons/Cobiron/Creepers/American Andirons: Some made to support spits for roasting.
